Meeting Your Potential?

In a world that is ever changing, there are still many things that are consistent and never change. Potential is one of those things.

In the science world, potential energy is known as “stored energy” and is often partnered with the term kinetic energy (energy of motion). These two forms of energy follow the Law of Conservation of Energy that states that energy can not be created or destroyed; it can only change form.

We recently experimented with this change of energy in my 6th grade physical science class using the Phet Energy Skate Park simulation.

What I love most about this simulation is the option to show the change of energy with a pie graph (above skater) and bar graph (left of screen). This is an amazing way to help see the concept of the energy never being lost of destroyed but instead just changing form. When the skater reaches the point of highest kinetic energy, he is at the same time at the point of lowest potential energy and visa versa.

This same idea of energy conversion applies to our lives as well. We either have potential or we are using our potential. One or the other is happening and even sometimes happening simultaneously.

“Believe in your infinite potential. Your only limitations are those you set upon yourself.
Believe in yourself, your abilities and your own potential. Never let self-doubt hold you captive. You are worthy of all that you dream of and hope for.”
― Roy T. Bennett

The success of a person in any area of his life depends on the energy graph that is being created by  his story.

Are we sitting with stored up potential? Using a portion of our potential? Or fully converting our potential into results? The potential is always there. What are we doing with it?

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”- Ephesians 2:10 (ESV)
